Since it's creation in 1984, the UMBC Rugby Football Club has been defining, charismatic, and an intoxicating force at the university and on the pitch. UMBC players have fire in their hearts and a passion for excellence, uniting all who have earned their patch.
Anyone is welcome to join, no experience is necessary.
The 2015-2016 team has set lofty goals in our continued pursuit of excellence. The team is coming off a semi-final playoff run in the Fall of 2015 and looking ahead to a strong spring season. For the first time in team history, we will be playing both 7s and 15s in the spring. A new challenge, but the guys are up for the task. We are even hosting our own UMBC 7s tournament.
The team practices twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00-7:00pm at UMBC and will be held at the club house on Walker Field. On Mondays and Wednesdays, the team lifts weights in the RAC, works on fitness, and watches game film. Every Friday before a game is a team dinner at the club house cooked by one of our team parents.
Games are on Saturdays, and each one consists of two 40-minute halves. We usually play an A-side [Varsity] game and a B-side [JV] game, ensuring that everyone gets plenty of play time. It's a great way to get in excellent shape and be a part of a team sport - the only real contact sport on campus.
